They offer a morning or afternoon school program from September through June. There are two locations Countrywood and Summit. Countrywood offers an extended preschool day from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Summit is located in the Summit Presbyterian Church, provides morning and afternoon classes for 3 hours per day. Hours for morning classes are 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and for afternoon classes 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Red Apple follows the Stafford County Schools’ calendar.
Children must be three by December 31st to addend.
The Red Apple - Countrywood Location provides morning classes for 4 hours per day. Hours for these classes are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This site is used exclusively as a private school.
The program provides a series of structured and unstructured activities that contribute to the child’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. Learning centers and motivational activities build the foundations for future academic pursuits. Children are encouraged to observe, discover, investigate and enjoy themselves in a learning environment.
The program is developed around the basic developmental skills of the young child, which are: gross motor, fine motor, language, personal and social skills, self help skills as they pertain to school and cognitive skills.
In the younger classes, the emphasis is in the personal and social area. Learning to be a member of a group; to share; to get along with others; to use words to solve problems; and to have fun in a school setting is encouraged. Children work with shapes, numbers, emerging literacy skills and activities in all developmental areas, but the emphasis is in the personal and social area.
As the children become older and get closer to attending kindergarten, the emphasis switches to the cognitive areas. There is more structure. Phonics is added and the concentration is on school readiness skills and emerging literacy skills.
