Secret Code to Northern Virginia Living

September 30, 2009 By: mbomichele Category: commuting, Food Specialties 6 Comments →

It’s like a new set of military acronyms to learn…. HOV, slug, WTOP, 95 corridor, Nats, Caps, Skins, Old Town, the Hill, the Mall, the Spur, Beltway Bandits, hacks, and gaggles. Listening to traffic reports and watching the news for NOVA newbies can sometimes create even more disorientation.

Yes! there should be a handbook for living, working, commuting and having a great time in DC.  All of us transplants and those hard to find natives have bushels (crab bushels that is)  of opinions about the right way to commute, the best places to live, the easiest way to get to Baltimore, the best coffee and the only way to get in and out of DC on the Fourth of July.  BTW, the only way to really steam a crab is Maryland style… in beer with a ton of Old Bay and spices, served hot on top of yesterday’s newspaper.  Beer, paper towels, and a mallet are all that is required.  The season is still going .. Maryland Steamed Crabs Recipe (forget the cider, a can of cheap beer instead).

There is so much to know and learn about the DC area! Chime in!
