Summer Programs through Stafford County Schools

by mbomichele on May 13, 2010

There are a variety of summer programs offered through Stafford Schools for kids of all ages.  Not only can high schoolers take new or remedial credit, many choose summer to get that driver’s ed class out of the way.

BEHIND THE WHEEL SUMMER PROGRAM 2010
Driver Education is offered as part of the Physical Education 10 course that is a requirement for graduation. The classroom instruction or book portion of driver education is part of the health instruction of P.E. 10. The second phase of driver education is Behind the Wheel (BTW) training.   BTW is an optional course that is offered during the regular school year through PE 10 or elective PE. BTW is also available as a summer program.

The Elementary programs include Cyber Camps for tech happy kids, Gifted programs and extended school year programs for kids that qualify through an IEP.  Additionally, if your upcoming kindergartner has never attended a structured preschool or qualifies for ESl, there is a bridge program to assist them with their move into kindergarten.

Middle School programs include some exciting options:

N-STAR VDP Summer Camp

Dahlgren

Description:  Stafford County Public Schools in conjunction with Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division and the College of William and Mary participated in a grant program to involve seventh grade middle school students in a problem-based, hands-on robotics project during the past five years. This program is designed to give students a taste of engineering, math, science, and technology (STEM). Approximately 40 Stafford students are expected to participate. Within the summer program students will be challenged in both robotics and varied problem scenarios. These scenarios will enable students to experience and solve problems very similar to what naval engineers experience every day.

Dates:  July 6 – July 8 (Session 1), and July 19 – 22 (Session 2)

Students will have fun while developing skills for visualization, problem-solving, design, testing and collaboration.  There will be a variety of activities and projects using technology.  Preference will be given to qualifying students who applied to attend N-Star but were not able to attend due to space limitations.  Parents must provide transportation to the academy site.
