This Sunday June 17th is Father’s Day! The DC area offers several ideas of things to with Dad on his special Day!
First off you may want to take your Dad to Mt Vernon to visit with the “Father of Our Country”. Visitors to Mt. Vernon will have a chance to meet and pose with General George Washington from 10:00am-4:00pm. George will also discuss what it meant to him to be the “Father of Our Country” along with being a Father, Step-Father and Husband. George will hold these discussions at 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. As a special surprise for Dad he will receive a complimentary ticket to the George Washington Distillery and Gristmill. The Distillery is located three miles from the Mt. Vernon estate. While there you and your Dad can see demonstrations on the whiskey-making process. For more information go to Father’s Day Weekend at Mount Vernon. If you can not make it to Mt. Vernon on Sunday you can still meet with George Washington on Saturday June 18th. Admission to Mt. Vernon is $15.00 for adults, $7.00 for childeren ages 6-11 and children under 5 are admitted free. The Distillery also charges a fee of $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children 6-11 and children under 5 are free. Military can purchase discounted tickets at the REC/ITT office on MCB Quantico and the LTS on Ft. Belvoir for a discount. At the ITT office adults are $13.25 and Children are $6.50.

Another great place to take Dad on Father’s Day is Gadsby’s Tavern. On Sumday they will be having free tours of the place “The Father of Our Country” at one time ate and drank. The Tavern will offer free tours for all fathers from 1:00pm-4:00pm. The cost of admission for others is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children ages 5-12. The Tavern is located at 134 N. Royal Street, Alexandria. for more information and directions go to Gadsby’s Tavern. Gadsby’s Tavern is a part of the Blue Star Museum, which gives free admission to active duty and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day. You must present a military ID.
You might also want to take your Dad into DC to visit all the great monuments or take him to one of the great parks in the area for a picnic. Whatever you do with your Dad enjoy!
