Get ready for some great barbecue this weekend in DC! The National Pork Championship takes place on 23 and 24 June on Pennsylvania Ave between 9th and 14th Streets. The event runs from 11am to 10pm on Saturday and 11am to 7:30pm on Sunday.
Purchase your tickets online for a discount. It’s $12 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6 to 12. Children 5 and under are free. If you buy them at the gate, the cost for adults goes up to $15. The money that is raised by this event goes to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.
There is more than great food available this weekend. There will be 30 bands on 3 stages during the weekend including Soul Asylum, ConFunkShun, Cowboy Mouth and more! You can get free samples at the Safeway Sampling Pavilion. Checkout the Rancher’s Reserve Beef BBQ Championship. For the kids, there is the Orkin Family Fun Zone. Watch how the Celebrity Chefs cook. Checkout the NBA Nation Live Tour. Or stop by for refreshments at the Amstel Light Beverage Gardens!
If you do come out, the best way to get there will be the Metro. Exit at Federal Triangle, or the Archive-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter. There are a number of lots available, but you’ll have to look around for a spot since DC, as normal, will be crowded with visitors.
