The start of school is just around the corner! Schools on MCB Quantico start 22 August. Stafford County Public Schools and Prince William County Public Schools start classes a little bit later on 4 September.
The one thing in common about all schools in Virginia is the requirement for immunizations. The Commonwealth of Virginia sets immunization requirements for all school in the state.
Parents have to provide proof of adequate age appropriate immunizations with the prescribed number of doses of vaccine indicated below for attendance at a public or private elementary, middle or secondary school, child care center, nursery school, family day care home or developmental center. Vaccines must be administered in accordance with the harmonized schedule of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Academy of Pediatrics, and American Academy of Family Physicians and must be administered within spacing and age requirements.
Having immunizations protects your child and other children in school. You can have a religious exemption for vaccines, but in case of an outbreak then your child will not be allowed to attend school until the outbreak is resolved.
At the MCB Quantico Naval Health Clinic, there is an immunization clinic at Hallway “F” on first floor of the Clinic. You can walk in, but be aware that active duty members have priority from 7:30am to 10:30am every day. Tricare Prime patients enrolled to Naval Health Clinic Quantico are required to bring their medical record and shot card for routine vaccines. The clinic is open from 7:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday, but on Thursday it is closed from 1pm to 2pm.
