That was an awesome link to Virginia Farmer's Markets. It had info on the: Farmer's Market in Spotsylvania, the Field of Flowers in Purcellville, Floyd Beasley Produce in Bowling Green, the Fredericksburg Farmer's Market, the Frying Pan Park Farmers Market in Herndon, the Gainesville Farmer's Market, Great Country Farms in Bluemont, the Haymarket Farmers Market... and many more.

Gee Michele, tell us what you really think. I'm sure a lot of stuff is left in cars while slugging. I never know that resource existed. Thanks.

I get that traffic is bad, but it is a necessary evil here, and as you have so aptly pointed out, there are many ways to deal with it. Slug, carpool, vanpool or just go it alone with a book on your ipod. No matter what, you still have to consider what you come home to as well. Quality of life once you get there is of primary importance. We may have a tougher commute way out here in "the South" but for those of us who live here, the pace slows a little while we are in our suburb. You know the faces in the grocery store and it feels more like a community. AND we are still pretty friendly down here! I wouldn't trade that for anything!

Frank is right! Maryland crabs are the best. It's the brackish waters that make them sweet. I second the nod to the Ship's Cafe.

One thing to consider is the "reverse commute". So... if you work at Marine Corps Base Quantico consider living to the North. Most of the rush hour traffic goes North in the morning and South in the evening. So living North of Quantico allows you to avoid most of the traffic.

I am not a commuter but when you live here you can’t ignore traffic. And if you like to go into DC or anywhere “up North” you have to learn the lay of the land. When we first moved here we started by listening to WTOP (103.5) because obviously – it had traffic on the 8’s! (at 3:18, 3:28, 3:38, etc) and you needed this continuous update around here. Even at 3:18 am sometimes. It took me awhile to learn (and am still learning 6 years later) the names of all the roads and their locations. I swear it was months before I figured out that the inner loop and the outer loop were referring to the two directional loops of 495!

Crabs in Baltimore are the best. There is a great place in Catonsville (just outside Baltimore) named the Ship's Cafe that serves the best crabs

Slugging is the way to go; the train is good, especially on Fridays, but slugging is consistent. You do have to figure out the rhythm of your commuter lot (slug line) because ours at Mine Road fills up by 0630 and people are parking up on the grass.
Our commute in the morning from Mine Road (newer lot) to Ft McNair is only 45-50 minutes. HOV lanes are the paths to success.
